A tiny shock; a little fright; a teeny-weeny edge-of-the seat white-knuckled moment; a minor unexpected twist…don’t we even have the fundamental right to expect these very basic courtesies to be extended to us when we watch a supposed horror movie with psychological elements? While watching Aatma your tortured soul cries repeatedly, asking this question over and over again!

What’s the plot?

An obsessive, suspicious, wife-beating husband (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) returns back from the dead to try and take his beloved daughter (Doyel Dhawan) away from his working wife (Bipasha Basu). Of course, to achieve that other-worldly transportation, he first has to win his daughter’s absolute love by making her turn away from her loving mom. And to do that, he starts getting rid of everyone coming in the way. So how does the hapless mother ward off the evil threat?

What’s hot?

Practically nothing!

What’s not?

·         A totally unimaginative narrative where there is practically no build-up of any tension or terror.

·         Poor Nawazuddin Siddiqui literally ‘ghost acts’ in his meaningless, worthless role! How he must be kicking himself for accepting this film!

·         Even the perpetually skimpily dressed Bipasha fails to bring anything hot to the table!

·         Child actress Doyel Dhawan fails to do justice to the semi-possessed school-kid’s portrayal.

·         Wasting of talented supporting cast that includes Shernaz Patel and Darshan Zariwala.

Verdict

An utterly avoidable horrendous horror drama!
