Bang Bang
Year: 2014
Director: Siddharth Anand
Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Danny Denzongpa, Javed Jaffrey

The title was not too imaginative and even the promos did not look too interesting. But the pairing of Hrithik-Katrina and the release date on a long weekend were strong enough reasons to watch Bang Bang. So does the film provide enough bang for the buck?

What’s the plot?

A dreaded international terrorist (Danny Denzongpa) and his chief henchman (Javed Jaffrey) hatch a plan to rob the famous Kohinoor diamond from London. Their main aim is to thwart the proposed Indo-British extradition treaty. But even before they hire anyone for the planned robbery, the diamond gets stolen. The daredevil jewel thief (Hrithik Roshan) now becomes the prime target of both, the terrorists as well as the secret services. His pursuers soon find out that he is too slippery a prey, who keeps moving from one place to another and the only way to track him down is through a girl (Katrina Kaif) he has kidnapped on the way! Who is this mysterious thief and what is he really after?

What’s hot?

·        The super-looking, super-fit Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif make one red hot lead pair. Hrithik plays the suave, smooth-talking action-man to perfection and Katrina’s portrayal of a simple, small-town girl, who has unwittingly become a part of an international chase, is quite adorable. Their amazing screen chemistry is the USP of the film.

·        With Fox-Star Studio as its producer, the movie boasts of top-notch production values. Beautiful locales (from London to Shimla to Prague to Dehradun) and multiple high adrenaline chase-and- fight sequences give this film a sleek Bond-movie look.

·        Director Siddharth Anand manages to give us a fast, furious and funny first half by seamlessly combining the action-romance-comedy elements.

·        Some well-choreographed song-and-dance sequences highlighting Hrithik’s unmatched dancing prowess.

What’s not?

·        The screenplay lacks imagination. There are no surprising twists and turns. Although it must be said that the romantic sequences are quite well-written.

·        The second half rapidly loses steam and winds up into a long-drawn climax.

Verdict

Bang Bang is a spectacularly mounted action-thriller, which nicely weaves rom-com element into its narrative. Forget its unimaginative plot and a less than satisfactory second half. You may just watch it to admire the gorgeous lead pair and their fun-filled chemistry!
