Dolly Ki Doli, the latest Sonam Kapoor flick produced by Arbaaz Khan presents a familiar plot. A con-girl and her team pose as a prospective bride and her family to ensnare rich grooms. Their game is simple. Flaunt the beautiful girl, get the overeager boy hooked, enjoy the marriage ceremony, dope the groom’s family on the first night and run off with the booty!

Now isn’t it similar to the recent YRF-feature Daawat-E-Ishq? But whereas DEI weaved a social and romantic subtext, Dolly Ki Doli just remains a hit-and-run kind of a con-game story. The back-end story to explain the girl’s peculiar disposition and the emotional angles (and tangles!) are pretty weak to give any substance to the overall plot or the characters.

Yet it is a film that entertains- at least in spurts. Sonam Kapoor plays the central character with familiar guileless gusto and the supportive cast chips in with competent performances. The lighthearted approach, quirky characters and few interesting twists, not to mention the short length work in the film’s favour.

All in all, Dolly Ki Doli is fairly enjoyable to watch (and a commendable debut directorial venture!) but the repetitiveness of the situations and inability to make viewers empathize come in the way of making it a better fare.
