The parallel cinema of the post-Millennium Bollywood is certainly proving to be a winner. Realistic yet entertaining; avoiding commercial clichés yet proving viable at the box-office, this genre is the most vibrant and enticing thing happening in contemporary Hindi cinema. Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana is another delightful addition to this genre.

What’s the plot?

To pay-off his major debt in London, a young man (Kunal Kapoor) decides to come back to his ancestral home in Punjab. Ten years back, he had run away from the family to make it big in a foreign land. That time he had drugged his doting grandfather (Vinod Nagpal) and made away with his cash. After coming back, he realizes that the things have changed drastically back home.

His grandfather has lost his memory and sits in a chair without uttering a word. The family dhaba, which once was the pride of the place, has folded up since the grandfather hadn’t shared his secret recipe (Chicken Kurana) with anyone else. His ex-girlfriend (Huma Qureshi) has become a doctor and still hasn’t got over his betrayal.

Even though the rest of the family welcomes him with open arms, his uncle still looks at him suspiciously. Posing as a London-based lawyer, he realizes one thing that if he is to earn some money to pay off his debt, then he has to make the dhaba run and for that he has to find out how to make the famous Chicken Khurana! Will he be able to do that? Will he ever earn the real love of the people he had hurt so badly?

Its title really doesn’t offer much clue to the nature of the film. But it is a film worth watching for its heartwarming coming back to roots narrative!
