Yeh Saali Zindagi

Author: Dr. Mandar V. Bichu

With his films like Hazaron Khwahishein Aisi and Khoya Khoya Chaand, director Sudhir Mishra has showed his talent for telling unusual stories in unusual style and in Yeh Saali Zindagi he manages to do the same.

A talented chartered accountant (Irrfan Khan), working for a crook (Saurabh Shukla), falls for an attractive widow (Chitrangada). Just when he is about to express his romantic feelings, he comes to know that she is in love with a prominent businessman’s son (Arunoday Singh).  He manly cops the blow and decides to move on with life. But then the lady gets wrongly kidnapped with her lover; and the accountant, against his better judgment, decides to risk everything to get the kidnapped couple released. With multiple side-characters, each with their own agenda and own story, involved in this whole kidnapping process, it is going to be quite a testing task!

On one level the film is about jail-mates, gang-wars, kidnappings, corrupt cops and even more corrupt politicians and on the other, it is a film about complexities of love and relationships. A clever, pacy and multi-layered plot; Mishra’s deft directorial handling and a host of natural performances make this film a worthy watch.
