Star power, stunts, special effects-.are these elements are enough to make a film a blockbuster? Without ‘Story’ – No! That is the long and short review of Saaho.

Writer-director Sujeeth decides to make a big budget entertainer with Prabhas, the post-Baahubali-superstar, and for that he concocts an absolutely incoherent, implausible and illogical story. It begins as a tale of an undercover cop trying to nab an elusive thief; then turns into a gang-war saga with multiple villains and a million sub-plots.

When it comes to a Masala film, I have nothing against the incoherent or the implausible or the illogical, provided it engages and entertains. Unfortunately, the director’s idea of entertaining people is to dish out an endless stream of stunts and special effects. While he ODs on those, we keep waiting for interesting characters, crisp dialogues, tight-knit suspense and fluffy romance, none of which ever materialize.

The lackluster, never-ending-story even turns the actors lethargic and all of them just seem to be going through the motions, waiting for the ongoing onslaught on sense and sensibility to finally end! Saaho is an avoidable film, even if you happen to be Prabhas’s so-called ‘die-hard’ fans!
